Alright Pharma investors, today I am going to be giving a brief weather report and its impact on the upcoming FDA Panel Meeting for Cell Therapeutics this week.
As you may have heard the East Coast got hammered this week with a snow storm that produced upwards of 2 feet of snow in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia this week. A majority of the roads and airports are still closed as of Sunday afternoon.
So how does this change things for the FDA?
Well the FDA is largely based out of D.C. metropolitan metro area and I can attest to you that this area is a complete mess (I live in Virginia). If you remember in my last post I wrote that the FDA would be releasing Cell Therapeutics’ Briefing documents on Monday Feb. 8, 2010. However, with the inclement weather this might not be possible, it is highly likely that that the Federal Government could be closed tomorrow which would push the release date of the briefing documents back until Feb. 9, 2010. My concern is that the roads that lead in and out of DC metropolitan area are not safe enough to navigate for commuters.
But, what is even more concerning is that the ODAC panel hearing is only a couple of days out and there is more snow scheduled to fall on February 9th and 10th . IF the panel hearing is delayed I am not sure how the FDA would handle this as they are not the quickest moving agency out there.
Investors can monitor early tomorrow to see if the Government will be opened or closed by visiting this site (here). If the status is closed then I fear the briefing documents may be released late.
