Advanced Life Sciences (ADLS):

Advanced Life Sciences announced some positive news this morning. The company said that they have finally reached an agreement with the FDA to run their follow up Phase III clinical trial of Restanza under a Special Protocol Assessment designation for patients with community acquired bacterial pneumonia. Generex (GNBT):

Generex said this morning that they had now achieved 75% of the required number of per-protocol completers in its Phase III trial of Oral-lyn. The company noted that early results may suggest that the use of Oral-lyn will support a non-inferiority claim relative to standard of care injectable insulin. The company reiterated that patients taking Oral-lyn on average showed no weight gain and an actual decrease in Body Mass Index (BMI). » Read more: Daily Pharma Watch

Onyx Pharmaceuticals (ONXX):

This morning Onyx made some major announcements. The company said that one of their lead drugs in development, carfilzomib, showed strong results in a Phase IIb study in relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma patients. The company noted that 24% of patients achieved an overall response rate and had a median duration of response of 7.4 months with very few side effects. » Read more: Daily Pharma Watch

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX):

Vertex announced some positive results this morning from the Phase III trial of their hepatitis C drug telaprevir. The company said that 75% of people chronically infected with genotype 1 heaptitis C achieved a sustained viral response after receiving a 12 week regimen. Sustained Virological response is defined as the absence of HCV RNA from serum by a sensitive PCR assay 24 weeks following discontinuation of therapy. » Read more: Daily Pharma Watch
